The story of Tutankhamun, the ancient Egyptian 'boy king', has captivated audiences around the world and now you can experience it first hand in Manchester.

Tutankhmun: His Tomb and His Treasures promises to take you on a fascinating journey through time to discover the relics of a forgotten tomb, only uncovered in in 1922 by archaeologist Howard Carter.

Across over 4000 square metres of exhibition space, cutting edge technology will bring the story of Tutenkhamun and his ancient Egyptian world to life. For the first time in the UK, you will get the chance to look through Howard Carter's eyes and witness for yourself the moment the tomb was discovered.

Jewellery, cult objects, amulets, weapons a golden chariot and the iconic death mask are among the painstakingly reproduced replicas of one thousand burial artefacts on display. These items were intended to equip the young Pharaoh on his journey to the afterlife.

Most of Tutankhamun's treasures are held in the Egyptian National Museum in Cairo and his tomb and mummy are preserved in the Valley of Kings, making this new exhibition a unique opportunity to experience the legendary tomb in what the organisers call 'virtual archaeology'.

Extended until 26 March 2011
